Game One Box Score
Game Two Box Score
OLIVET, Mich. -
The Adrian College softball team's offense struck early and often on Saturday in an MIAA doubleheader against the Olivet College Comets while taking two wins on the road by 10-1 and 6-2 scores.
Krissy Sheets started the game off for the Bulldogs by taking a 3-1 pitch to left field for a lead-off double. After being sacrificed over to second base, Holly Lowe drove Sheets in on an infield single to give Adrian the 1-0 lead after the first half-inning of play.
The Comets would respond in the bottom half of the inning with a run of their own to tie the game at 1-1 after one complete.
The Bulldogs took the lead for good in the top of the second inning. Erica Fracassa safely reached first on an error by the Comets' second baseman and then stole second base to get into scoring position. Katie Adams then drove in Fracassa on a single to center field to put Adrian up 2-0.
In the third inning, Holly Lowe led off the inning with a double to left field. Lowe then scored from third when Meghan Stevens singled through the left side of the Comet defense. With two outs in the Bulldog third inning, Ashley Kalinski plated the fourth run of the game for Adrian when Kristen Toney singled to right-center field.
The Bulldog offense went on a scoring frenzy in the top of the fourth inning as Adrian sent 10 batters to the dish. With one away in the inning, the Bulldogs collected six straight hits - five consecutive singles capped off by a home run - to score six runs. Carmen Batway, Lowe, Jenna Kloster, Stevens, and Kalinski all singled before Fracassa hit a grand slam home run over the left field fence for her first career round-trip hit.
Andrea Vangoss had more than enough offensive support on the mound as she threw her second consecutive complete game victory in two days. Vangoss gave up just four hits and one run while striking out five to improve her record to 6-5 on the year.
The Bulldogs once again wasted little time in taking the lead in the second game of the doubleheader as they scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning.
Krissy Sheets once again led off the Adrian offense with a hit, this time with an infield single. Two batters later, Holly Lowe picked up her second RBI of the day by driving in Sheets with a single to center field. Stevens followed up Lowe two batters later with her third home run in the Bulldogs' third doubleheader of the week to give Adrian the 3-0 lead after one complete inning.
After reaching first on a fielder's choice and advancing to second on a wild pitch, Holly Lowe scored the fourth Bulldog run of the game when Jenna Kloster doubled to left-center field. Stevens then hit her second home run of the day to put the Bulldogs up 6-0 after three innings.
The Comets would plate one run in the fifth and one in the sixth to cut the Adrian lead to 6-2, but Olivet would not get any closer in the contest.
Kelly Tomasek threw seven complete innings in the circle for the Bulldogs while picking up her fourth win of the season. The freshman scattered eight hits over seven innings while striking out seven on the day.
The Bulldogs (10-11, 4-2 MIAA) will take a break on Sunday before getting back to the field on Monday and Tuesday. Adrian will take on Rochester College on Monday, April 7 for a doubleheader beginning at 3:30 p.m. at Rochester, Michigan. The Bulldogs will then face MIAA foe Calvin College on Tuesday at the Adrian College softball field for a twinbill that is also set to start at 3:30 p.m.
