BLUFFTON, Ohio -
The Adrian College softball team improved to 15-1 overall after sweeping Bluffton on Saturday afternoon. The Bulldogs won game one of the doubleheader 5-4, and then won game two 9-1.
Meghan Stevens hit a two-run home run in the first inning to give Adrian the lead. Bluffton tied the game by scoring two runs in the bottom of the second inning. AC responded with a two-run third inning. Katie Adams led off the third with a single up the middle. Krissy Sheets laid down a sacrafice bunt that moved Adams to second. Holly Lowe came to the plate and delieverd a double down the rightfield line. Adams scored on the play. Rachel Batman scored the second run of the inning on a throwing error by the Bluffton catcher.
Bluffton got one run back in the bottom of the third inning, and they tied the game in the bottom of the sixth inning at 4-4. AC won the game in the top of the seventh inning. Sheets scored the winning run off another double from Lowe. Lowe led the team with a 3-for-4 performance from the plate.
Kelly Eberhardt threw a complete game to earn her sixth win of the season.
Kelly Tomasek shut down the Bluffton lineup in the second game of the doubleheader. The sophomore picked up her eighth win of the season by throwing a two-hitter. She only allowed one run, while striking out five batters.
Bluffton scored their only run of the game in the bottom of the first inning. Adrian scored five runs off two hits in the top of the second inning. Bluffton committed three errors in the inning to help Adrian build a 5-1 lead.
AC scored three more runs in the top of the fifth to win the game by the eight-run rule. Katrina Wooten led of the fifth inning with a triple. Stevens ended the game by hitting a double to left centerfield that allowed Lowe to score.
