The best start in school history continued on Friday as Adrian swept Concordia University by the final scores of 5-4 and 12-0. The 24th-ranked (NCFA) Bulldogs have now won 13 straight but not without a fight from the Cardinals in game one.
Adrian scored single runs in the first and third innings but Concordia tied the game with two runs in the bottom of the third. The game moved into extra innings with things tied at 3-3 when the Bulldogs scored two big runs to take a 5-3 advantage in the eighth. The international tiebreaker places a runner on second to start the inning and Sarah Hall entered the game to run replacing Meghan Stevens. Kristin Toney singled with one out moving Hall to third. Katrina Wotten had an infield single which loaded the bases and Erica Fracassa had an RBI single which scored Hall with the go-ahead run. Krissy Sheets drew a bases loaded walk with two outs which proved to be the winning play.
Concordia scored once in the eighth but left the tying run on first. Kelly Tomasek got the win in relief for the first time this season. She went 1.2 innings and allowed no hits with one walk and two strikeouts. Sheets scored a run and drove in two in game one. Stevens also had two RBI's.
The Bulldogs led wire-to-wire in a game two rout. Adrian scored two runs in the first and second and later added two runs in the fourth and six runs in the sixth to end the game prematurely after six innings. Tomasek improved to 11-0 with a season ERA of 0.32 going five innings in the nightcap allowing one hit with six strikeouts. Holly Lowe went 2-for-2 with a triple, two walks and three runs scored before being lifted. Stevens went 4-for-5 with two runs and two RBI's. Toney drove in three runs and collected a pair of hits. Adrian entertains Albion to begin MIAA action on Saturday beginning at 1:00 p.m.
