HOLLAND, Mich. -
The Adrian College women's softball team split a doubleheader against Hope on Saturday afternoon. Kelly Tomasek led the team to victory in game one, but the Flying Dutch scored three runs in the top of the fourth inning to defeat Adrian in game two.
Adrian put together a big seventh inning to defeat Hope in game one. The Flying Dutch scored first to grab a 1-0 lead after the first inning. AC tied the game at 1-1 in the third inning. Krissy Sheets led off the inning with a double. Sarah Hall moved Sheets to third base with a sacrifice bunt, and Sheets went on to score off an error by Hope.
The Bulldogs put the game away by scoring four runs off four hits in the seventh inning. Hall hit an RBI single to give AC their first run of the inning. Katie Adams scored the second run of the inning off an RBI double from Holly Lowe. Jenna Kloster sealed the win for AC with a two RBI single to give Adrian a 5-1 victory.
Tomasek limited Hope to four hits, while allowing one run and striking out four batters.
Adrian tried to make a late comeback in game two but came up short losing 5-4. Hope scored two runs in the third inning, and they were able to extend their lead to 5-0 after the top of the fourth inning. Meghan Stevens chipped away at the lead by hitting a solo home run in the fourth inning.
AC scored two more runs off two hits in the fifth inning. Sheets highlighted the inning with an RBI double. The Bulldogs had three hits in the seventh inning, but they were only able to generate one run as Hope held on to win 5-4. Sheets played great in game two as she ended her day with a 4-for-4 effort from the plate.
The Bulldogs will return to action on April 13th with a doubleheader at Calvin.
