ADRIAN, Mich. -
The Adrian College softball team swept a doubleheader against conference rival Saint Mary's on Saturday at the AC Softball Complex. The Bulldogs add two more wins to thier season total making them 31-3 overall with a 10-2 mark in MIAA play.
Adrian won game one by the final score of 4-3. Krissy Sheets hit a double to left centerfield to start the inning. She went on to score the first run of the game off a sacrifice fly from Holly Lowe. Meghan Stevens highlighted the inning with a two-run homerun over the wall in leftfield.
Stevens recorded another RBI in the second inning with a base hit through the left side of the infield with the bases loaded. She finished the game with a 3-for-4 effort from the plate with a game-high 3 RBI's.
Kelly Tomasek improved to 19-0 on the hill for Adrian. The sophomore threw complete game and did not allow an earned run.
Game two was not as close as Adrian won 12-4. The Bulldogs recorded 15 hits in six innings to score 12 runs. Lowe had a great game as she went 4-for-4 and also scored three runs.
AC scored four runs in the third inning. Lowe and Katie Adams each recorded RBI singles in the inning. Jenna Kloster also had a big hit in the inning with a 2 RBI double down the leftfield line. The Bulldogs went on to score at least one run in every inning.
The combo of Lowe and Stevens gave Adrian a 6-2 lead in the fourth inning. Lowe reached base off a double to right centerfield. Stevens followed her in the lineup and hit her second homerun of the day to increase the lead.
The Bulldogs finished off the Belles in the sixth inning by scoring five runs off four hits. Kelly Eberhardt earned the win on the mound in game two.
The Bulldogs will take their school record 31 wins into a showdown on Tuesday, April 21 against Trine. Adrian will host the Thunder in a doubleheader which will determine the MIAA regular season champion. If Adrian wins both, they will clinch the title and host the MIAA Tournament. If Trine wins both, they will clinch the title and host the MIAA Tournament. If the teams split, it will come down to Trine's last conference doubleheader on Saturday, April 25 against Saint Mary's.
