ADRIAN, Mich. -
The women's soccer team got a much-needed win on Sunday afternoon at home against Mount Union. Lindsay Chitwood scored in the first half and it held up in a 1-0 win over the Raiders. Chitwood scored at the 31:10 mark of the first half for her second goal of the season with an assist from Lauren Cozzi. Cozzi fed the ball to Chitwood streaking down the middle of the field and Chitwood carried the ball for about 20 yards. She fired a shot into the lower right corner of the goal from about seven yards out for the eventual game-winner.
Adrian had more offensive chances in the first 45 minutes and Mount Union had better scoring opportunities in the last 45 minutes. Adrian had 11 shots and six shots on goal for the match while the Raiders had 10 shots and seven shots on goal. Steffeny Burns made six saves including an acrobatic one in which her body was inside the goal but it was ruled that the ball never crossed the goal line with just 1:40 left to go the match.
Chitwood finished the match with seven shots including four shots on goal. Sarah Muylle and Samantha Bono each recorded a shot on goal as well for the Bulldogs. Adrian is now 2-3-1 overall.
