ACHA I Reaches 20-Win Plateau in 7-2 Win over Youngstown State

ADRIAN, Mich. - The 12th-ranked men's ACHA Division I hockey team used balanced scoring to pick up its 20th win of the season on Sunday afternoon at Arrington Ice Arena. The Bulldogs defeated Youngstown State, 7-2, as seven different players recorded a goal against the Penguins.

The teams were tied 1-1 after the first period before Adrian opened things up with a four-goal outburst in the second to take a 5-1 lead after 40 minutes. Kevin Sunde put Adrian up 2-1 just 19 seconds into the second period. Sunde redirected a shot from Tim Carlson into the back of the net at even strength.

The Bulldogs were back at it at 9:59 of the second as Mike Yakamovich scored his fifth goal of the season. Randall Cox and Jared Semple were given assists as Yakamovich scored while falling to the ice.

Adrian scored 13 seconds later as Joey Coffin scored his 19th goal of the season unassisted to give Adrian a 4-1 lead. AC closed out the period with an Alex Norman goal at the 11:50 mark. Norman got the puck right off a faceoff to the left side of the net and banged home his seventh goal of the season.

Youngstown State scored first in the third period just 20 seconds into the stanza. Semple got the goal back scoring on a delayed penalty at the 10:37 mark on a 6-on-4 with the goaltender coming out of net and Adrian already on the power play. AC finished the scoring at 12:17 as Kyle Peterson stole the puck inside YSU's zone and went in unassisted off the giveaway for his fourth goal of the season.

Adrian finished 2-for-7 on the power play while the Penguins were 1-for-10. Matt Welch only needed to make 13 saves to improve to 6-1 in net this season. Adrian had 45 shots on goal including 20 in the second period.
