The ball has bounced the wrong way as of late for the women's
soccer team as they dropped their third straight on Wednesday at
Alma by the final of 4-3. Adrian (8-4-2, 2-3 MIAA) had been playing
great defense through their first 11 matches allowing just seven
goals. In their last three defeats, they have yielded 13 goals.
The team played much better than their outing and came out
strong as McKenzie Doda scored her second goal of the season at
6:28 with an assist from Lauren Cozzi. The lead was short lived as
Carly Reising notched her fourth goal of the season at 11:39 off a
rebound.
Adrian got a break at 14:10 to take a 2-1 lead as Alma knocked
the ball into their own goal off a corner kick. The Scots responded
quickly at 19:25 as Taryn Handyside tied it up at 2-2 with an
assist from Alli Meurer.
The offense slowed for the rest of the half as Adrian made a
change in goal replacing Chayna Wallace with Steffeny Burns.
Wallace made four saves in the first half. Alma held a 12-1 edge in
shots in the opening 45 minutes.
Alma took a 3-2 lead at 65:38 as Handyside's second goal of the
game was assisted by Becky Marton. In less than a minute, the
Bulldogs answered as Anika Johnson scored her long awaited first
goal of the season at 66:30 with an assist from Jordan Wolf.
It looked like the match might end up in overtime, but Autumn
Root sent the Scot fans home happy at 85:44 with an assist from
Annette Stromberg. Monica Witt made three saves for Alma in net.
Burns made two saves in the second half and took the loss (1-1).
The final shot total was 22-6 in favor of Alma. The shots on goal
was much closer going 10-6 in favor of the Scots (9-5-1, 3-0-1
MIAA).
