Softball Sweeps Bluffton

ADRIAN, Mich. - The Adrian College softball team (6-4) swept a doubleheader against Bluffton University in their home opener on Thursday afternoon. The Bulldogs captured a 6-0 game one win and then prevailed 5-2 in game two.

Sophomore Kelly Eberhardt earned the win in the circle in both games for the Bulldogs improving to 4-2. Eberhardt got the start in game one and went the distance going seven innings. She allowed four hits in the shutout while allowing one walk and striking out six hitters.

In game two, she entered in the fifth inning with Adrian trailing 2-1 and went the final 2.1 innings. Adrian scored four times in the bottom of the sixth to make Eberhardt a winner in game two. She allowed two hits and struck out three of the nine batters she faced.

Adrian put a three-spot on the board in the bottom of the first in game one highlighted by a two-run home run by senior Meghan Stevens. Sophomore Sarah Hall also had an RBI double in the first inning. The Bulldogs added two more runs in the fifth and one more run in the sixth. Junior Katie Adams went 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI. Senior Jenna Kloster also went 1-for-3 with two RBI's on a double in the fifth.

Jessie Plague got the start in game two and was staked to a 1-0 lead after the third inning. She ran into trouble in the top of the fourth and allowed two runs before getting pulled for Eberhardt. Plague allowed seven hits in 4.2 innings and walked one. Adrian got a big sixth inning and scored four times to earn the win. Hall was 2-for-3 in game two with a run scored. Junior catcher Kristin Toney had a key double in the sixth and had two RBI's. Freshman Amara Karapas also had two RBI's for the Bulldogs.
