ADRIAN, Mich. - The Bulldogs used a powerful offensive showing this past weekend to tame the tigers of Rochester Institute of Technology by a combined score of 24-1.
The Bulldogs opened the weekend Saturday night with a 14-0 win. The offense was led Saturday by Spencer Bonomo and Tom Ciaverilla. Bonomo opened the game with a natural hat trick for the Bulldogs with Ciaverilla assisting on all three goals. Captain Jared Semple scored late in the first to round out the scoring for the period. The Bulldogs lead 4-0 at the end of the first twenty minutes of play.
The second period gave the Bulldogs a chance to fine tune their special teams play as they netted four power play goals as well as one short-handed goal. Ciaverilla got his first of three on the night four minutes into the period on the power play. Ryan Bachman picked up another power play goal one and a half minutes later. Max Gavin added a power play and short-handed goal with a Justen Mitchell power play goal between. Newcomer Cody King recorded his first bulldog goal with around three minutes remaining in the period to round out the second period scoring. A scoring barrage of six goals in the second had run the score to 10-0 as the two teams went into the locker room.
In the third the Bulldogs would get another short-handed goal four minutes into the game, this one coming from Joe Anstett. Ciaverilla would use the third period to finish off his hat trick, and Jared Semple would add another goal to put the score at 14-0 by the time the game ended. Ciaverilla ended the game with a total of seven points, Bonomo had five, and Semple had four.
In net Matt Anderson played the first two periods stopping all four shots he faced, picking up the win and shutout. Louis Ronayne played the final period stopping all seven shots he faced.
On Sunday the Bulldogs continued dominating the tigers with a 10-1 victory. Bonomo once again led the Bulldogs offensive attack scoring a hat trick for the second straight night. Bonomo scored three minutes into the game to open the scoring. The Tigers would keep the Bulldogs relatively close for the first 20 minutes only allowing two goals in the period.
The second period would be the decisive one for Adrian as the Bulldogs scored four goals to go up 6-0 by the end of the period. Chris Dixon, Semple, Ciaverilla, and Gavin all had goals in the period.
The third period would see R.I.T. score their only goal of the weekend as Ronayne was beat on a breakaway from the blue line by Brendan Domos. Bonomo finished off his hat trick in the third as Semple and Bachman scored as well to put the score at 10-1 when the final buzzer went off.
Anderson and Ronanye made a combined nine saves while splitting time in net.
The Bulldogs return to action this weekend as they take on a home and home series with the Eastern Michigan Eagles Saturday night and Sunday afternoon.
