Women's Soccer Moves to First in MIAA after 5-0 Shutout Win

Box Score

ALBION, Mich. – The Adrian College women's soccer team, under the guidance of head coach Ali Alamdari, moved to the top spot in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association standings as it continued its winning ways tonight (Oct. 6) shutting out Albion College 5-0. With the win, the Lady Bulldogs improve to 9-3 overall and 7-1 in the MIAA, while the Britons stay winless and go to 0-12 overall and 0-8 in conference play.

The Bulldogs now have won five-straight, marking the most wins in a row in the history of the program.

Adrian scored four goals in the first and one in the second.

Adrian did not waste any time putting points on the board as freshman Erin Weide scored first at the 6:43 mark when she made a breakaway resulting in her fourth goal on the year and giving Adrian the early 1-0 lead. Sophomore Sam Barker earned the assist.

Less than one minute later, Barker connected with Weide again. This time Barker made a nice cross on the end line in which Weide got a hold of and placed the ball in the back of the net.

The one-two-punch of Weide and Barker continued at the 19th minute with Barker doing the scoring with a rocket shot under the crossbar for the goal. On the play, Weide earned her sixth assist on the year.

Sophomore Alanna Chambry scored her first collegiate goal of her career at the 44:56 mark when classmate Alex Bowen Chambry found her in the box. This also marked Bowen's first assist of her collegiate career.

At the 77th minute of the game, junior Lauren Cozzi tabbed her first assist on the season when she cleared to Barker who would score on a breakaway, giving her two goals on the night. Barker now leads the conference and team with 13 goals (four goals ahead of second-place in the MIAA). This also marks the third time this season and seventh in her young career that Barker has earned multiple goals in a game.

In the net, Chayna Wallace accumulated a team-high two saves in 45 minutes of play.

Adrian looks to stay atop of the MIAA as they host Alma (10-1-1, 6-1-1) on Saturday (Oct. 8) who stands second in the conference. Kickoff is slated for 11:30 a.m.
