Box Score 2 CLERMONT, Fla. – The Adrian College softball team started their season and spring break trip off to a great start as they swept the day defeating Hanover College 8-6 and Augustana (Ill.) 8-3. Adrian will play a total of 10 games over the next six days at the National Training Center.
In the first game against Hanover, sophomore Jami Shafley (Freeland, Mich./Midland) starting in the circle going six innings while allowing four runs. Junior Kelly Eberhardt (Wellington, Ohio/Black River) came on in relief in the seventh inning with the bases loaded and struck out the next three batters to earn the save.
Sarah Hall (Napoleon, Ohio/Napoleon), a junior, had a big day at the plate going 2-for-4 including a three-run home run. Senior Kristin Toney (Cassopolis, Mich./Edwardsburg) also had a solid day at the plate going 2-for-4 with a single, double and two RBI's. Playing in her first collegiate game, freshman Katie Dewyre (Pemberville, Ohio/Eastwood) scored three runs.
In the second game of the day the Bulldogs faced Augustana (Ill.). Eberhardt followed up her first save of the season with her first win, pitching a complete game while allowing only four hits on three runs, of which only one was earned. Sophomore Amara Karapas (Saline, Mich./Saline) went 2-for-4 at the plate while knocking one out of the park to finish the game with three RBI's.
Dewyre had another excellent game going 3-for-3 at the plate with an RBI and a run scored. Junior Maggie Hein (Adrian, Mich./Lenawee Christian) was 2-for-4 at the dish with two RBI's. Hall had another solid performance in game two as she hit a double while knocking in two runs. Freshman Brittany Bertrand (Grand Blanc, Mich./Goodrich) scored twice while coming up with several key defensive plays at third base.
Adrian will take on another doubleheader tomorrow as they face Weidner College at 9:30 a.m. and then the sixth ranked and 2009 National Champion Messiah College at 11:30 a.m.
