Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

CLERMONT, Fla. – It was another big day for the Adrian College softball team as they knocked off #4 Messiah College 14-4 after they beat Widener College 9-1 in five innings. The Bulldogs are now 4-0 to start the season on spring break as they play at the National Training Center.

In the first game against Widener, sophomore Jami Shafley (Freeland, Mich./Midland) pitched a superb game allowing only one run on one hit over five innings. At the plate, junior Sarah Hall (Napoleon, Ohio/Napoleon) was 2-for-3 while hitting her second home run of the season to go along with two RBI and two runs. Fellow junior Laura Heinz was a perfect 2-for-2 at the plate with two doubles while driving in three runs and scoring twice. Senior Kristin Toney (Cassopolis, Mich./Edwardsburg) knocked a triple and scored twice.

Head Coach Kristina Schweikert had the second game of the day marked on her calendar as the team took on the 2009 National Champion and current fourth ranked team in the country, Messiah College. The Bulldogs took it to the Falcons as junior Kelly Eberhardt (Wellington, Ohio/Black River) held them to only one run on three hits through four innings. The Falcons had previously scored 11 runs in each of their first two games of the season. Sophomore Jessie Plague (Sterling Heights, Mich./Adlai E. Stevenson) and freshman Sarah Muncey (Genoa, Ohio/Genoa) came on in relief of Eberhardt to hold Messiah to only three more runs.

Maggie Hein (Adrian, Mich./Lenawee Christian), a junior, led the Bulldogs at the plate going 4-for-4 with three runs and two RBI's. Senior Katie Adams (Napoleon, Ohio/Napoleon) did what you expect from your leadoff hitter as she got on base each time she came to the plated. Adams was 2-for-2 with a walk and a hit by pitch while scoring three times. Freshman Katie Dewyre (Pemberville, Ohio/Eastwood) had another solid game going 2-for-3 with two runs.

Adrian will now face Goshen College tomorrow at 9:30 a.m. followed by Ferrum College at 1:30 p.m. at the National Training Center.
