Box Score 2 CLERMONT, Fla. – It was another solid day for the Adrian College women's softball team as they defeated Goshen College 5-2 and Hanover College 12-4. The Bulldogs are now 6-0 to start the season.
In game one, sophomore Jami Shafley (Freeland, Mich./Midland) and freshman Melissa Rich (Mount Morris, Mich./E.A. Johnson Memorial) combined to hold Goshen to two earned runs on five hits. Junior Maggie Hein (Adrian, Mich./Lenawee Christian) was 2-for-4 with two RBI's and a stolen base. Senior Kristin Toney (Cassopolis, Mich./Edwardsburg) went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored. Brittany Bertrand (Grand Blanc, Mich./Goodrich), a freshman, had a solid day going 2-for-3 with a walk and scoring twice.
The Bulldogs took the second game in five innings as junior Kelly Eberhardt (Wellington, Ohio/Black River) pitched a complete game allowing four runs (one earned) on three hits.
The Adrian bats came alive as several players had solid performances at the plate. Junior Sarah Hall (Napoleon, Ohio/Napoleon) was 3-for-3 with two doubles and two RBI's. Senior Katie Adams (Napoleon, Ohio/Napoleon) was 2-for-2 and scored twice. Sophomore Amara Karapas (Saline, Mich./Saline) went 2-for-3, including hitting her second home run of the season, and knocking in four runs. Katrina Wotten (Blackstock, Ont./Cartwright), a junior, hit an inside the park home run while knocking in two RBI's. Toney also had two RBI's while hitting her second triple of the season.
Adrian will take a day off before facing Rose-Hulman at 1:30 p.m. and Johnson & Wales (RI) at 3:30 p.m. on March 3 at the National Training Center.
