Box Score ADRIAN, Mich. - The men's lacrosse team prevailed 12-6 in their home opener over Fontbonne on Saturday and improved to 3-1 overall and 2-0 in the MLC. Adrian attempted 50 shots in the contest with 28 shots on net. Fontbonne had 29 shots and 19 on net. Both goaltenders played well as Matt Neal got his first start of the season making 13 saves. Chad Meurer kept his team in the game with 16 saves for the Griffins.
David Monroe led the Bulldogs with four points and scored three goals. Monroe scored 12 seconds into the game with an assist from Brandon MacDonald as the Bulldogs built a 3-0 lead in the first 2:57. Josh Maluta scored with an assist from Monroe at 13:46 and Tom Thielman finished the scoring run at 13:03 unassisted.
The Griffins scored twice in the final 5:14 of the period to make it 4-2 in favor of Adrian after the first quarter. There was just one goal scored in the second quarter as Monroe scored an unassisted goal at 13:53.
The Bulldogs scored the first two goals of the third quarter to take a 7-2 lead. Tyler Tanguay scored at 8:41 unassisted and Monroe got his third goal of the game at 3:02 from Mitch Barnard. Fontbonne scored three straight goals to cut the lead to 7-5 midway through the fourth quarter. Colin Benecke scored a pair of goals and Tucker Nickols also scored during the run.
Maluta's second goal of the game on a man-up chance ed another maat 7:13 from T.J. Cook made it 8-5 and then Cook scored another man-up goal at 5:51 from Tanguay to give AC breathing room at 9-5. Drake Dailey-Chwalibog then took over offensively with three goals in the final 5:23 of the contest all at even strength and unassisted. Ryan Werhane won 14-of-19 faceoffs for the Bulldogs.
