Box Score 2 CLERMONT, Fla. – It was a great way to end their spring break trip as the Adrian College softball defeated Rose-Hulman 4-0 and Widener 8-0. The Bulldogs are off to a perfect 10-0 start to their season.
In game one, sophomore Jami Shafley (Freeland, Mich./Midland) shutdown the Fightin' Engineers, allowing only four hits while striking out seven to earn the complete game shutout.
Senior Katie Adams (Flat Rock, Mich./Flat Rock) was a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate with two runs scored and two stolen bases. Fellow senior Kristen Toney (Cassopolis, Mich./Edwardsburg) was 2-for-4 with a double. Freshman Katie Dewyre (Pemberville, Ohio/Eastwood) knocked in two of Adrian's runs.
In their final game in Florida, the Bulldogs took down Widener in five innings as junior Kelly Eberhardt (Wellington, Ohio/Black River) pitched a complete game shutout, striking out eight batters while allowing only two hits.
Toney had another solid game at the plate going 2-for-3 with her third triple of the season, while driving in four runs. Sophomore Amara Karapas (Saline, Mich./Saline) was 2-for3 with two doubles, while junior Laura Heinz (Manchester, Mich./Clinton) was also 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored. Adams was 1-for-2 with a run scored and ended the game with a walk-off hit to score the mercy run.
The Bulldogs will take a few days off before they return to play their first home doubleheader on March 14 against Concordia (Mich.) starting at 3:30 p.m.
