Women's Soccer Blanks Belles, 1-0

Box Score

ADRIAN, Mich. – The women's soccer team (9-2-2, 6-2-2 ) avenged an earlier season loss by beating Saint Mary's (10-3-1, 8-3) Thursday night, 1-0,  in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association play behind Katie Caruso's first goal, Chayna Wallace's fifth shutout, and some solid play from Abby Doebel  in the midfield and Tori Foote on defense.

After a scoreless first half, Caruso received a ball about 30 yards from the goal and created just enough space on the dribble to fire a curling shot into the upper left side netting just past the 67th minute.

Receiving an assist on the goal was Sam Barker, which gave her a share of the team lead in assists at four, and extended her consecutive points string to six games.

"With the MIAA being as tight as it is this year, every game is a must win, but especially those against the teams near you in the standings.  Coach Joyce has St. Mary's playing very well this year, so we're pleased to have come out of this match with three points," said head coach Ali Alamdari.

Adrian had a 15-12 shot advantage and with the win, the Bulldogs are now just one point out of second place. With the loss, Saint Mary's dropped from a tie for first to second place, but allowed Adrian to gain some ground with six conference matches left to play.

"The girls did a great job implementing the adjustments we wanted to make at halftime, and it paid off with a great strike by Caruso to win it.  Saturday will be another great test against Kalamazoo, but it's another opportunity to move up the table if we play to our potential," said Alamdari.

With the shutout, Wallace moved into a tie for first place in the MIAA in shutouts with five against her opponent tonight, the Belles' Chanler Rosenbaum. Wallace ended the night with five saves.

The team's next match will be Saturday, October 13th at home against Kalamazoo at 12:00 p.m.
