Adrian and Albion Split Softball Doubleheader

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

ALBION, Mich. - A quick first game win and a long second game loss for Adrian led the Bulldogs to a split with MIAA opponent Albion as the Bulldogs are now 12-9 (4-2 MIAA) on the season. Adrian took the first game 3-2, then went all the way to 10 innings with the Britons in the second game, falling 11-8.

The first game was a pitchers dual, as senior Kelly Eberhardt faced off against Erin Giannotta for the Britons. Through five complete innings, both pitchers had only given up one combined run in the game.

In the top of inning six, Adrian opened it up, scoring three runs in the inning, making the score 3-1. This was enough run support for Eberhardt, who went the full seven innings, giving up two runs on five hits while striking out five, improving her record to 7-6 on the year, as the Bulldogs pulled out a 3-2 victory.

Freshman Brooke Stewart was the only Bulldog to get multiple hits, as she went 2-for-3 for the game. The only RBI for Adrian came from senior Katrina Wotten, who went 1-for-3 at the plate.

The second game was much different than the first, as Adrian and Albion played a marathon, going into 10 innings. Albion went ahead in the tenth, scoring four runs as the Britons won the game 11-8 to split with the Bulldogs.

There was no shortage of offense for both teams, as Albion had 14 hits to Adrian's 13, while both teams had three errors. Sophomore Brittany Bertrand and senior Maggie Hein had three hits each, while senior Sarah Hall and junior Tara Camper both had two hits.

The Bulldogs battled back, after being down 6-3 in the second inning. Adrian got one run in the third, fourth, and sixth innings, to force extras. Both teams were able to plate one run in the ninth, then Albion opened up the lead in the tenth inning, scoring four runs and making the contest out of reach for Adrian.

Stewart got the loss for the Bulldogs, despite a solid effort. The freshman went eight innings, giving up four earned runs on ten hits while striking out seven. Stewart is now 2-1 on the season.

Adrian will now have one day off before traveling to Trine Saturday for a doubleheader with the Thunder. The games are scheduled to start at 1:00 PM, as Adrian hopes for a MIAA sweep with the 18-4 (0-0 MIAA) Thunder.
