Men's ACHA Division 1 Ice Hockey

ACHA D1 Smokes Metro Jets, 14-3

ADRIAN, Mich. - Tonight your ACHA DI Bulldogs dropped the puck against the visiting Metro Jets. Early on in the first period the Bulldogs put themselves out front early with a goal from junior Ryan Bachman who received a pass from senior Chris Dixon who got it from freshman Andre Rakas for the early 1-0.

A short time later the Bulldogs would find themselves on the penalty kill, but that wouldn't stop them as senior Spencer Bonomo took the faceoff in their own end, won it and sent it up to a streaking Senate Patton who would skate in uncontested and beat the Jets goalie glove side for a shorthanded goal and a 2-0 lead. The Jets would get another power play opportunity, but the Bulldogs would not let them set up any kind of offense. Again the Bulldogs would earn a penalty but it wouldn't keep them from putting one in the back of the net. Freshman Michael Moroso fought in the neutral zone along with Andrew Amodeo and skated in, made a move on the defender, and beat the goalie five-hole giving Moroso the goal and Amodeo the assist and the Bulldogs a 3-0 lead.

The Bulldogs offense could not be stopped as junior Max Gavin was able to knock the puck out of the air below the crossbar and into the back of the net giving the Bulldogs a 4-0 advantage. The Jets would finally make the Bulldogs pay for all the penalties as the Jets would take a shot from the point that tipped off the top of starting goalie Frank Crupi's glove and into the back of the net, but the three-goal lead wouldn't last long as Bachman again found the back of the net for his second goal of the game and freshman Ryan Bodette earned the assist. The Bulldogs offense could do no wrong as Bachman added to his game point total with an assist that he sent all the way across the front of the net to junior Tristan Musser who was streaking in the back door for a one-timer and the 6-1 lead. And that's how the first period would end with the Bulldogs up 6-1.

To start the second period, Crupi would be asked to make a big save just to his right and he stood tall denying the Jets' forward. The Bulldogs would pick up right where they left off as Bonomo added another goal giving him his first of the game as he found a bouncing puck, skated it, put a move on the goalie and beat him five-hole for the 7-1 lead as the scoring frenzy continued.

The Jets trying to muster up some sort of offense took a shot that clanked off the post, but they would get it back as a Jet skated in all alone and beat Crupi five-hole. The Bulldogs would still hold a five-goal advantage as they would get closer to the midway mark of the second period. After the Bulldogs would misplay the puck the Jets would pounce on it and take a shot that would get by Crupi. Midway through the period the Bulldogs would switch out goalies as junior Richard Hennard would finish out the night between the pipes. Gavin was able to put another goal in as he was right in front as he got a pass from Bonomo who added another point to his total on the night. The Bulldogs would just continue to pour it on as Bodette found the loose puck and tapped it home and directly after the Bulldogs would score yet another goal as Moroso would receive a pass from Bodette across the front of the net for the one-timer shot and a 10-3 lead. Senior Kevin Sunde would put one in after a lucky bounce off a Jets' skate that was redirected as he was going for the pass and it went in the back of the net instead. The Bulldogs would go into the locker room with a comfortable lead 11-3 after 40 minutes.

Just like the first two periods, the Bulldogs would continue to put the puck in the back of the net this time sophomore Alex Dobrzeniecki would receive a pass from Bachman and put the puck between the pipes for the Bulldogs' 12th goal of the game. Hennard continued his strong play in net as he turned away a couple Jets shots as we approach the midway point of the third and final period.

The action seemed to have cooled off after the midway point of the period, but the Bulldogs would earn themselves a power play opportunity. With thirty-nine seconds left in the previous penalty, the Jets would get another penalty and put themselves in a 5-on-3 opportunity where the Bulldogs would cash in on it as Patton sent a pass to Amodeo who hit the one-timer for a power play goal. The Jets would earn a five-minute major for checking from behind and a game disqualification. The hit resulted in Bodette having to receive medical attention.

With the penalty brought on a Bulldog power play and they would remain on the power play the rest of the game. The Bulldogs would add their fourteenth goal of the game as junior Jordan Spear put one in for a power play goal. The game would end with the Bulldogs scoring fourteen goals on 48 shots earning the 14-3 win as they end exhibition play and look forward to their home opener against Eastern Michigan on September 21 at 7:00 PM at Arrington Ice Arena.
