FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The men's tennis team has made great strides under the guidance of second-year head coach Adam Albertsen and improved to 3-0 this fall with a convincing 8-1 win at the University of St. Francis (Ind.) on Saturday afternoon.

"We came out strong in doubles and carried that momentum into singles play," mentioned Albertsen. "St. Francis had some very nice doubles teams and the guys battled to come away with all three points. Jordan and Michael played a tremendous match and really turned it on when the match was on the line."

The Bulldogs swept doubles play for the third straight match and the highlighted matchup came at one doubles. Michael Mertz and Jordan Verbauwhede trailed 3-0 before rallying for an 8-5 win. Cameron Hamilton and Alex Amos did not break much of a sweat in an 8-1 win at two doubles. Ryan Delacy and Spencer Georgetti finished off the Cougars, 8-6, at three doubles.

On the singles side, all six matches were in straight sets with Adrian winning five of those matchups. Mertz and Amos lost just one game in their matches and Troy Gargrave at six singles won 6-1, 6-1 over J.T. Biggs.

"With each match we look to get better, and today we saw a lot of good things in singles and doubles," said Albertsen. "We look to build off this match and continue to improve as a young team."

The next match for the Bulldogs will be against Cornerstone University , Friday, September 28 at home at 3:30 pm.
