Box Score NOTRE DAME, Ind. - The women's soccer team traveled to Saint Mary's College on Saturday and left with a 2-1 loss at the hands of the Belles. The Bulldogs were without the services of All-American Sam Barker and had a tough time generating offense during the match.
The team got behind early as Maggie McLaughlin scored 5:38 into the match for her second goal of the season. Mollie Valencia assisted on the match's first goal as McLaughlin headed the ball of a cross from the right side of the box.
The teams were in a stalemate over the next 67-plus minutes before Adrian tied the contest as junior Abby Doebel scored her first goal as a Bulldog unassisted at 73:01. Doebel took the ball after a Saint Mary's defender lost it and shot from just outside the penalty area to tie the match at 1-1.
The tie was short lived as Saint Mary's took a 2-1 lead at 77:14 as Ashley Morfin notched the game-winner for her first goal of the season. The unassisted goal was from 25 yards out and came off a deflection.
"It was certainly a frustrating day for us, but that's the result of us not having a strong start to the game combined with a great effort by Saint Mary's," said head coach Ali Alamdari. "We had our chances like the Alma game, but need to do a better job putting them away in traffic. We'll use this game as a learning experience and move forward."
Adrian managed just four shots on goal against the Belles defense. Ellery Karsten had a pair of shots on goal and Carmina Lizyness also had one. Chayna Wallace made three saves for the Bulldogs.
