Road Woes Continue at Alma

Box Score

ALMA, Mich. - The women's soccer team will need to quickly figure out their road troubles as they dropped a 7-0 decision at Alma College in their final road regular season match. The Bulldogs have an overall record of 12-6 but are just 5-5 in true road matches this season. They do have four road shutouts but against the top three teams in the MIAA they have been outscored 14-2. The team will wrap up the regular season on Saturday against Saint Mary's and then will have to hit the road in the upcoming MIAA Tournament.

The Bulldogs are now 10-5 in the conference and entering the match they knew that climbing into the top two would be a tall task. The motivation of being in the top two would be hosting a tournament semifinal contest.

"Knowing that this match would have little bearing on the league standings, there were some good opportunities for our substitutes to show that they belong in our tournament plans," said head coach Ali Alamdari. "A few passed that test, and some will have to hope they get another shot on Saturday. Our number one priority was to rest injured players and preserve our health for the postseason. While we're not pleased with our performance, we'll put it aside and prepare to honor our seniors on Saturday against Saint Mary's in our final home match."

Adrian and Alma came into the matchup tied for third in the league standings. Adrian had two matches left while Alma had three remaining meaning the Scots were likely to gain the third seed regardless of today's outcome. The Bulldogs kept the Scots off the board for the first 10 minutes but in the final 35 minutes of the first half it was 4-0 in favor of the home team.

Autumn Root, Taryn Handyside, MacKenzie Smith and Handyside again scored for the Scots who got revenge after Adrian beat them 1-0 earlier this season. Smith scored again at the 51:01 mark and then two goals within 1:21 by Brianna Russell finished the scoring. Megan Kalanik and Agatha Weddle each had a pair of assists for Alma. Sam Barker and Sofia Farah were the only players to have a shot on goal for Adrian. Taylor Royce gave up seven goals but did also have a career-high nine saves.
