Softball Drops a Pair on Day Four

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

CLERMONT, Fla. – The Adrian College softball team's day off on Wednesday may have stopped the mini-momentum they gained with a pair of wins on Tuesday. The team took the diamond on Thursday and dropped a pair of games to Elizabethtown (3-0) and Susquehanna (5-3).

Adrian mustered three hits against the Blue Jays as Keli Krause threw a complete game with two walks and five strikeouts. The Bulldogs left six runners on base but could not solve Krause. E-Town scored all three of their runs in the bottom of the first. The inning started with an error by Adrian and the third batter also reached on error. Jessica White was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to push across the first run. Kaylee Werner delivered a two-run double to give the Blue Jays a 3-0 lead.

Kelsey Meyer (1-3) took the tough loss despite allowing no earned runs. She went six innings and gave up seven hits with a walk and two strikeouts. Kaitlyn Hinojosa, Karissa DeVore and Katie Dewyre all had singles for the Bulldogs. DeVore reached base two more times via the base on balls.

Susquehanna beat the Bulldogs for the second time this week and improved to 6-2. Ashley Cole went seven innings and allowed seven hits and three earned runs. Cole did not walk a hitter and fanned four. Brooke Stewart opposed her in the circle and also went the distance. She also allowed seven hits and just two earned runs (five total) as Adrian committed five errors in the field. Stewart walked a pair and struck out five Crusaders.

Freshman Jessica Sarch collected two hits in four at-bats with a run scored. Hinojosa smacked two singles in three at-bats and scored a run. Neither team had an extra-base hit in the contest. DeVore and Dewyre each had an RBI for Adrian. Susquehanna led 5-0 heading into the bottom of the sixth when the Bulldogs scored three times. Sarch, Macy Laws and Hinojosa each got a base hit to load the bases with no outs. DeVore had an RBI groundout moving everyone up a bag. Laws scored on a passed ball and Hinojosa took third with two outs. Dewyre kept the inning alive with a RBI single to cut the lead to two. Adrian went down in order in the seventh to end any comeback hopes.

The team will wrap up their spring trip on Friday with games against Case Western (5 p.m.) and Point Park (7 p.m.).
