Softball Takes a Pair over Kalamazoo

JACKSON, Mich. – With the weather continuing to wreak havoc this spring, it was important for the Adrian College softball team to play Kalamazoo College on Tuesday. After field conditions at the AC Softball Field were deemed unplayable, the two teams traveled to Jackson Community College where the Bulldogs scored a pair of wins (5-0, 10-6) over the Hornets.

Kelsey Meyer threw her first career shutout in game 1's 5-0 decision. Meyer improved to 3-8 on the season and allowed six hits with a walk and four strikeouts. Taylor Clements threw six innings and gave up 10 Bulldog hits. She fell to 4-7 by giving up three earned runs but did not walk a batter and struck out five.

Adrian scored once in the third and fourth, twice in the fifth and then once more in the sixth. Jessica Sarch went 3-for-4 with two RBI's and collected her first triple of the season. Karissa DeVore had an RBI double in the fifth and Meyer helped her own cause going 2-for-3 at the plate with a double and RBI. Rachel Jason collected her first hit of the season and also scored a run.

The second game was a wilder affair as the Bulldogs claimed a 10-6 win in a game that featured 22 hits. Brooke Stewart went seven innings and was saddled with five earned runs. She got the win (5-6) by striking out a career-high 11 Hornets. Victoria Najacht also threw seven innings and allowed 12 hits with all 10 runs being earned. She also walked five and did not strike a batter out.

Adrian jumped ahead 5-0 in the first but the Hornets came back to tie the game at 5-5 in the fifth. The Bulldogs scored twice in the sixth and three more times in the seventh to pull away. Cassondra Smith had a crucial hit with a bases loaded triple in the first. She finished the game 2-for-3 with two runs scored and a career-high four RBI's. Sarch went 3-for-5 in game 2 with a run scored and now is hitting .481 this season. DeVore was 2-for-4 and Ravin Toner went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI. Allison Lochart recorded her first RBI of the season and drew two walks.
