Box Score 2 ADRIAN, Mich. – Up until Monday the Adrian College softball team had not had a dominant performance at the plate during a season which has seen them bat .281 as a team through 24 games. The Bulldogs changed that for a day as they blasted Defiance College by the scores of 10-2 and 9-1 with both games ending in five innings. Adrian ran their winning streak over Defiance to seven games and improved to 29-19 all-time against the Yellow Jackets.
The Bulldogs and Yellow Jackets were involved in a tight one in game 1 tied at 2 entering the bottom of the fifth. Adrian then scored eight times capped off by a three-run home run by K'ya Toles-Burton which ended the game. Alli Rowland allowed 11 hits and five earned runs for Defiance to fall to 5-6 this season in the circle. Brooke Stewart had a solid outing going five innings and allowing five hits with a walk and seven strikeouts. Stewart is now 7-6 on the season for the Bulldogs.
Toles-Burton hit her first home run of the season in the fifth and finished 2-for-3 with two runs and a season-high four RBI's. Karissa DeVore went 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI's. Stewart also drove in a run at the plate hitting in the two-hole. Morgan Brandt collected her third double of the season in two at-bats with a sacrifice bunt.
Adrian jumped out to a 5-0 lead in game 2 after one inning and then added a run in the third and three more in the fourth to close things out. The Bulldogs had 13 hits in the nightcap and played sound defense with no errors. Kelsey Meyer had a great game at the plate going 3-for-3 with two runs and a season-high four RBI's. She belted her fourth double and first home run of her freshman season and also got the pitching win with five innings of four-hit ball. Meyer allowed one earned run and walked three with seven strikeouts to earn her fourth win.
Kaitlyn Hinojosa had her fifth double of the season and went 2-for-3 with two runs and a RBI in game 2. Toles-Burton drove home two more runs and Jessica Sarch went 2-for-3 with two runs scored. Sarch entered the day hitting .500 (26-for-52) in non-conference games this season. Sarch has now reached base in 19 straight games and has 15 multi-hit games this season. Adrian's offense has certainly perked up in the last five games scoring a total of 41 runs. The Bulldogs' next opponent will be Hope College on Wednesday as they travel to Holland for a pivotal MIAA doubleheader starting at 3:30 p.m.
