Softball Wins Eighth and Ninth Straight in Sweep of Albion

ADRIAN, Mich. – The end of the regular season for the Adrian College softball team has featured a nine-game winning streak and sets up the Bulldogs as the third-seed in the upcoming MIAA Tournament which starts Thursday, May 2 at Trine University. The Bulldogs will face Alma College as the second-seed at a time to be determined after all MIAA teams conclude the regular season on Sunday.

Adrian cruised to a pair of wins claiming an 8-0 game 1 win in six innings and a 12-2 game 2 victory in five innings on Saturday against Albion. Brooke Stewart fired a one-hit shutout in game 1 and improved to 10-6 in the circle as a sophomore. Stewart went six innings and did not walk a batter with six strikeouts. Stewart is 5-0 with a 2.41 ERA in 32 innings with four walks and 32 strikeouts during Adrian's winning streak.

The Bulldogs' biggest inning in game 1 was a three-run second which gave them a 4-0 lead. Stewart helped her own cause with a two-RBI double to left center, her sixth two-bagger of the season. Macy Laws also recorded an RBI in the second on an infield single.

Adrian scored twice more in the fifth and ended the game early with two runs in the sixth. The Bulldogs' fifth inning rally started with two outs as Karissa DeVore singled and scored on a Katie Dewyre double to left. K'ya Toles-Burton singled home Dewyre for a 6-0 lead.

In the sixth inning, the Bulldogs again scored twice with two outs. Kelsey Meyer had a pinch hit RBI single and DeVore ended it with a RBI single up the middle to score Laws from third. Toles-Burton had her fifth double of the season going 2-for-3. DeVore ended up 3-for-4 with her seventh double of the year.

In the second game it was Albion getting out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first before Adrian finished out the game with 12 straight runs. The Bulldogs scored four in the second, five in the fourth and three more in the third against Nicole Romain. Adrian finished with 10 hits including four extra-base knocks. Kaitlyn Hinojosa launched a three-run homer in the second, her third of the season. Dewyre had a two-run single in the fourth and Ravin Toner had her first double of the season down the left field line scoring two in the fourth.

Stephany Bohlmann had a big two-run double, her second of the season, in the fifth and Jessica Sarch also had an RBI groundout to score the 12th and final run. Meyer went five innings in the circle and gave up two earned runs with a walk and seven strikeouts. DeVore had her eighth double of the season and was 2-for-4 in game 2. Dewyre also had two hits in three at-bats with two runs scored.

Adrian went 6-2 at home this season and have outscored their opponents, 82-27, during their nine-game win streak.
