ADRIAN, Mich. – The women's tennis team got off to a great start on Wednesday with a 6-0 win over visiting Manchester University. The Bulldogs avenged last season's 5-4 loss to the Spartans and did not finish the last three singles matches due to inclement weather in the area.

The doubles portion of the match gave Adrian College a quick 3-0 lead. Kelsi Black and Arielle Williams teamed up at one doubles for an 8-3 win. Kylee Bezeau and Morgan Spencer also posted an 8-3 win at two doubles. Victoria Watson and Mariah Anselmi had an 8-4 win at three doubles. In all, four freshmen saw action in doubles meaning all three tandems played together for the first time.

Black had little troubles with Kara Gilley at one singles with a 6-2, 6-0 victory. Justine Hanson was fresh after not playing in doubles and used that to her advantage in a 6-2, 6-4 win at five singles over Jillian Bower. Kathryn Van Wormer also had a straight sets win at six singles (6-3, 6-2) over Morgan Wolf. The other three singles matches went unfinished because of the weather and were all in the second set.

"It is always great to open up the season with a win," said head coach Adam Albertsen. "I saw a lot of good things on the doubles side and liked how we attacked. Kelsi and Arielle played a great match and really complimented each other well on the court."

The Bulldogs next match is on Sunday, September 15 when the team travels to Columbus, Ohio to face Capital University at 12:30 p.m.
