ADRIAN, Mich. – The men's tennis team evened its season record at 1-1 after a 5-4 loss to the University of Saint Francis (Ind.) on Friday at the Craft Tennis Complex. The team did not seem to finish out a match that should have been theirs. The team trailed 2-1 after doubles with Michael Mertz and Alex Kret joining forces for the first time and winning convincingly 8-2. After a 8-0 win earlier this week at one doubles, Jordan Verbauwhede and Joey Loselle could not duplicate the feat with a 9-7 loss. Spencer Georgetti and Ryan Delacy also dropped a close one at 8-6 at three doubles.

The singles play saw Adrian win three quick matches as Mertz won 6-0, 6-0 at three singles followed by Loselle with a 6-3, 6-3 win at two singles. Troy Gargrave also won 6-2, 6-3 at six singles. The other three matches did not go according to plan as Verbauwhede and Delacy each won the first set only to drop the next two including a 13-11 tiebreaker for Verbauwhede at one singles. Alex Amos lost in four singles in straight sets (7-5, 6-3).

"This was a tough loss, but one hopefully our young team will learn from," said head coach Adam Albertsen. "We dug a hole falling behind 2-1 in doubles and climbed back into the match with three chances to seal the deal and just couldn't finish that final point. We had a couple great performances by some of the guys, but today shows it takes a team effort to win."

The Bulldogs will look to rebound this Sunday as they travel to Capital University.
