ADRIAN, Mich. - The Adrian College ACHA Division I men's hockey team won their ninth straight game to start the season on Thursday night, as they downed the Oakland University Grizzlies, 4-1, at Arrington Ice Arena.
Freshman Zach Armstrong (Findlay, Ohio) had a breakout game for Adrian, scoring his first two goals of the season to lead the Bulldogs. Adrian also got goals from freshmen Brad Kobryn (Brighton, Ont.) and sophomore Ted Anstett (Waterloo, Ont.).
Armstrong started the scoring with the only goal of the first period on assists from Matt O'Neil, (Mississauga, Ont.) and Matt Zaremba (Gaylord, Mich.) at 14:42.
Adrian made it 2-0 in the second period on a goal from Kobryn, this 15th of the season, with assists from Chris Derochie (Rossland, B.C.) and Eric Alden (Vanderhoff, B.C.).
The third period began with a pair of unassisted goals, first by Adrian's Anstett, and then by Oakland's Kyle Nelson to make the score 3-1. But Armstrong netted his second goal of the contest at the 15:34 mark on assists from O'Neil and Adam Bristol (Carmel, Ind.) to make the final 4-1.
The Bulldogs outshot the Grizzlies, 40-20, on the night as freshman goaltender Austyn Roudebush (Toledo, Ohio) made 19 saves while earning his fifth win of the season. With the win, the Bulldogs are now 9-0-0 on the year, while the Grizzlies fall to 4-5-0. The two teams will meet again tomorrow night in Rochester.
