Three-Run Fifth Inning Secures Game Two Win, Bulldogs Split with Belles

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The Adrian College softball team continued its battle in MIAA play Saturday afternoon as they took on St. Mary's and looked to fight their way into the MIAA playoffs. The Belles took game one from the Bulldogs, 3-2 but Adrian fought back in the second game to win 5-1 and finish the day as the fifth seed in the MIAA standings. The Bulldogs are now 15-11 overall and 5-7 in the MIAA.

Game one saw the Bulldogs take the early 1-0 lead as Karissa DeVore knocked in Jessica Sarch in the top of the first. The Belles tied the game in the bottom of the third, but Adrian took the lead, once again in the top of the sixth as Kaitlyn Hinojosa doubled to score Katie Dewyre. St. Mary's then tied the game in the bottom of the sixth and followed this in their final at bat as they scored in the bottom of the seventh to take game one, 3-2. 

Brooke Stewart (3-4) drew the decision for Adrian as she pitched the complete game and struck out five.

Jessica Sarch went 2-4 with a run scored. Katie Dewyre went 1-3 with a run scored and Kaitlyn Hinojosa went 1-2 with an RBI.

Game two was highlighted by the Bulldogs taking the early 2-0 lead in the first inning, and they did not look back from there. Karissa DeVore singled to score Macy Laws and Kaitlyn Hinojosa doubled to score Katie Dewyre. The Belles cut the lead to 2-1 after the second only before the Bulldogs secured their victory with a three-run fifth inning. Morgan Brandt singled to score Dewyre and Rebecca Greco singled to Hinojosa and DeVore. Adrian controlled game two as came awaye victorious, 5-1.

Kelsey Meyer (6-5) earned the victory as she pitched six innings allowing one run on five hits and striking out six. Kaitlin Lock pitched one scoreless innings as she did not allow a hit and struck out two.

Jessica Sarch went 2-4. Katie Dewyre went 3-4 with two runs scored. Kaitlyn Hinojosa went 2-3 with an RBI and a run scored.

The Bulldogs will see action again Wednesday, April 23 when they host Hope College for a double header set to start at 3:30 p.m. This will be the final home game for Adrian in 2014 and their senior day.
