Women's Tennis Claims First MIAA Win at Alma

ALMA, Mich. – The Adrian College women's tennis team captured a 5-4 win on Saturday at Alma College tying the single season school record for wins set last season (8-5, 1-2). The Bulldogs got their first MIAA win after leading 2-1 coming out of doubles.

Arielle Williams and Morgan Spencer teamed up at No. 2 doubles for an 8-1 win over Lauren Moreau and Nicki Malekadeli. Justine Hanson and Kathryn Van Wormer picked up a win at No. 3 doubles over Paige Pontious and Elizabeth Taylor.

"We jumped ahead 2-1 after doubles to help give us the edge," said head coach Adam Albertsen. "Justine played a great match and Tori and Morgan showed a ton of heart to win in three sets to seal the victory. Morgan handled the pressure of being last on the court great. She has really stepped up her game this season and this win was great for her."

Adrian and Alma split the singles matches as Spencer won in three sets to clinch the match. Spencer dropped the first set 6-3 and then rallied for a 6-3, 6-2 outcome. Victoria Watson earned a win at No. 6 singles with a 6-0, 3-6, 6-3 triumph over Chloe Ramsey. Hanson also got a win at No. 4 singles over Malekadeli 6-2, 6-2.

"This was a great match for the girls," said Albertsen. "Alma has given us problems in the past and it was great to knock them off."
