NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind. – It was a job very well done by the men's tennis squad on the road at Manchester University with a 9-0 victory improving the team's record to 2-0. Adrian made an early statement with a sweep of doubles play. The biggest margin of victory came at No. 2 doubles as the duo of Michael Mertz and Spencer Georgetti went 8-1 over Spencer Thomas and Isaac Collins. In other matchups, it was 8-3 at No. 3 doubles for Alex Amos and Brandon Brom and 8-4 at No. 1 doubles for Joey Loselle and Jeff Sophiea.
The momentum carried over into singles as Adrian did not drop a set. The Bulldogs won four different sets at love and a total of four games were taken by the Spartans. Brom at No. 2 singles dusted off Stratton Smith by scores of 6-3, 6-0. Mertz made quick work of Thomas at No. 3 singles with 6-2, 6-0 scores. Troy Gargrave came into No. 5 singles fresh after sitting out doubles and breezed by Collins (6-2, 6-0). Loselle got the best of Kyle Lahman at No. 1 singles with results of 6-3, 6-1.
Amos had a relatively close 6-4 win in the first set at No. 6 singles against Matt Buncich, but turned it up a notch with a 6-0 second set triumph. Sophiea proved to be too much at No. 4 singles with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Alex Winger.
