Singles Play Keys 5-3 Win at Manchester

NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind. – The women's tennis team had another hotly contested match on Tuesday (Sept. 23) and once again used strong singles play to pull out a 5-3 win at Manchester University to improve to 2-0.

The Spartans picked up a pair of doubles wins and had a strong showing by Erin Cordill who teamed with Katy Ashpole for an 8-2 win at No. 1 doubles and had a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 1 singles. The rest of her teammates could not produce similar results. The Bulldogs got an 8-6 win at No. 3 doubles as Justine Hanson and Morgan Spencer pulled out a tight one over Alisha Paddock and Alaina Beckner.

Adrian flexed their muscle in singles winning three of their four matches in straight sets. Hanson dominated Paddock at No. 5 singles with a 6-0, 6-0 decision. McKenzie Krieg was pushed by Megan Buckner at No. 4 singles before winning 6-4, 7-6. Spencer had an easier time at No. 3 singles with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Katie Peden. Arielle Williams won her first set 7-5 against Ashpole before falling 6-2 in the second set. She rebounded for a 6-3 score in the deciding set. The Bulldogs got the clinching point and Victoria Watson did not finish her No. 6 spot match although she led one set to none against Adriana Brown.
