Box Score DECATUR, Ga. – The Adrian College softball team mounted a huge comeback with a five-run seventh and then scored once in extras for a 7-6 win at Agnes Scott on Friday. The hitting hero was junior Rebecca Greco who hit a grand slam in the seventh to tie the game. She smacked her second career home run and set a new career-high with five RBI. She totaled six RBI all of last year.
Adrian (8-1) opened the scoring in the top of the fourth as Greco doubled home Karissa DeVore on the first pitch of the at-bat. Agnes Scott (0-7) took the game over in the fourth and fifth innings with five total runs. Aimee Jennings wreaked havoc for Agnes Scott as she stole home in the fourth and then emptied the bases with a three-RBI double in the fifth.
Kelsey Meyer went four innings for the Bulldogs and yielded two hits and no earned runs. Payge Reed entered in the fifth and gave up three earned runs with a walk and strikeout. In the seventh for Adrian, Kaitlyn Hinojosa singled through the left side to score Macy Laws and then Greco blasted her grand slam over the left field wall plating DeVore, Kallie Derrer and Jessica Sarch.
The Bulldogs sent Kaitlin Lock to the circle in the sixth and she righted the ship. Agnes Scott did not score in the bottom of the seventh and the game went into extra innings. The international tiebreaker placed a runner on second and Chelsea Shellman went into run. Laws bunted Shellman over to third and Sarch drove in the winning run on an infield single. Lock faced first-and-third with no outs in the bottom of the inning and got a pair of strikeouts to end the game.
Sarch and Hinojosa batting first and second in the order both went 3-for-5. DeVore scored twice and had a double in three at-bats. Lock got the win going the final 2.2 innings with no walks and five punchouts. Adrian continues its Georgia swing with games against Randolph (9 a.m.) and Emory (1 p.m.) on Saturday.
