Men's Tennis

Tournament Run Ends at Kalamazoo 5-0

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Adrian College men's tennis team faced a formidable task on Friday afternoon as they traveled to Kalamazoo College for the MIAA Tournament Final. The Bulldogs were making their first trip to the final, while the Hornets own a streak of conference championships that is unprecedented in collegiate sports. The final result was a 5-0 win by Kalamazoo as the Bulldogs did not have the firepower to create a true threat.

The first doubles match to finish was at the two spot where Alex Amos and Jeff Sophiea was outmatched 8-0 against David DeSimone and Elan Dantus. The second point began to become more contested as Troy Gargrave and Brandon Brom fell 8-5 at three doubles against Spencer Navarre and Eric De Witt. The best chance at a point was a battle at one doubles. The Hornets claimed a 9-7 win as Branden Metzler and Robert Hudson narrowly escaped Michael Mertz and Joey Loselle.

Metzler got a point at one singles over Brom by scores of 6-1, 6-0. Dantus sealed the tournament title for the Hornets at six singles with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Gargrave.
