Bulldogs Record Third Consecutive Shutout in 0-0 Draw with Saint Mary's (Ind.)

Box Score

ADRIAN, Mich.--The Adrian College women's soccer team posted its third shutout in a row after a 0-0 draw with visiting Saint Mary's (Ind.) in double overtime at Docking Stadium on Tuesday evening. The Belles now stand at 1-7-1 overall and 1-5-1 in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association, while the Bulldogs settle for a 3-3-5 record on the season, 1-3-3 in the MIAA. Box Score

The Bulldogs outshot the Belles 15 to 14 while the visitors had an 8-3 edge in shots on goal. The Adrian defense was outstanding as senior keeper Lexi Lewandowski (7 saves) lowered her goals-against average to a miniscule 0.42, and the backline of senior Tori Foote, juniors Megan Benoist, Chloe Berka and sophomore Madi Donaghy limited Saint Mary's to mostly shots from long range.

Both teams had quality chances in both overtimes, with Adrian dominating the 10-minute extra periods by holding a 7-3 shots advantage. In the 98th minute, Jenn Jarmy cut against the grain and had a right-footed shot that Lewandowski saved, then Maggie McLaughlin's follow-up chance went wide to the left. Adrian's top scoring opportunity post-regulation came in the 109th minute when junior Megan Benoist from the right wing served a perfectly placed ball into the left corner of the box where sophomore Mackenzie Wilcox's header went just past the left post.

Junior Taylor Miller nearly gave Adrian a chance to go up 1-0 in the 82nd minute when she had a good look from the top of the box after receiving a perfect chest pass from classmate Carlin O'Malley.

Saint Mary's best scoring chance in the second half occurred in the 61st minute when McLaughlin had a blast that Lewandowski made a diving save to her right. A few minutes later, Wilcox nearly finished a volley from close range off a corner kick from Benoist as the shot hit the left side-netting.

Adrian began the second half with a good look by O'Malley. In the 50th minute, she received the ball with her back facing the goal at the top of the penalty area, then turned to her right to rifle a shot from 25 yards that Rachel McCarthy stopped.

In the first half, the teams combined for seven shots with only one coming on frame as both defenses did a good job of preventing offensive flow.

Adrian is back in action on Saturday at MIAA opponent Albion College for a noon start.
