OLIVET, Mich.--The Adrian College men's wrestling squad is participating at the Olivet College duals on Saturday. The Bulldogs are going up against NCAA Division II-scholarship University of Indianapolis and Division II Provisional Davenport University.
Sophomore Dominic Paterra paced the Bulldogs with two wins at 133 pounds.
Adrian's biggest highlight of the afternoon came in its match versus in-state opponent Davenport, a school transitioning from NAIA to the NCAA. The Bulldogs won a season-high five bouts and held a 15-6 lead at one point. Freshman Zachary Snyder won by forfeit at 125 and Paterra earned a 7-4 decision over Kahle Scheenks for a 9-0 advantage. After the Panthers got on the scoreboard at 141, sophomore Ty Jasman outlasted Tyler Brewer in a thrilling 149 match, 1-0. Freshman Drew Mandell extended AC's lead to nine points, 15-6, with a 5-3 157-victory against Caleb Norris. Sophomore heavyweight Riley Griffin also scored for the Bulldogs, pinning Raiden Macleod in overtime.
In an exhibition matchup that doesn't count against Adrian's historical record, Paterra, freshman Kyle Briggs (141 lbs.) and sophomore James Renaud (157 lbs.) picked up wins against host Olivet's second unit.
