UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio – The Adrian College men's wrestling team competed in the NCAA Division III Central Regional over the weekend hosted by John Carroll University. The Bulldogs sent a younger team to the Regional this season and advanced two Bulldogs to Saturday. As a team, the Bulldogs placed 13
th after scoring 39 points.
At 125,
Adrian Rosas placed sixth for the Bulldogs. Rosas won his first match by a 10-2 major decision before winning by a 4-2 decision in the quarterfinals. Rosas dropped to the consolation bracket after a loss in the semifinals before losing by a 4-1 decision to drop to the fifth-place match and ultimately place sixth after a medical forfeit.
Aiden Smith was named a Regional Champion after going 4-0 in the 165-bracket. Smith won his first match by fall before winning the quarterfinals by a 17-1 tech fall. In the semifinals, Smith won by an 11-2 major decision before claiming the Regional Championship by a 1-0 decision. This marks the second Regional Championship for Smith in his career.
Adrian's other victories came at 184 where
Spencer Vos won his first march by a 2-10 tech fall, and Shan Swan won in the consolation bracket by a 7-1 decision.
With the top finish at the 165-bracket,
Aiden Smith punches his ticket for the NCAA Division III National Championships. The National Championships will take place March 13-14 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
