ANGOLA, Ind.--The Adrian College men's wrestling team concluded the dual-match portion of its schedule for the fall semester tonight at Trine University, but the Bulldogs were defeated by the host Thunder, 29-15, at Hershey Hall.
Leading the way for the Bulldogs was junior heavyweight Zach Rieger who moved to 8-1 on the season after pinning Terry Ratliff in a time of 1 minute and 52 seconds. Seven of Rieger's eight wins have come via pinfall, including a 6-1 record at the Ohio Northern Invitational where he recently received the 2016 ONU Most Falls Award.
Sophomore Dominic Paterra won by forfeit at 133 pounds to give Adrian a 6-4 lead.
Trine, however, won the next three bouts to retake the lead 14-6 and never trailed after that.
Freshman Dylan Steward got the Bulldogs back within 14-9 after earning a 14-8 decision over Brandon Gay at 165.
The Thunder then sealed the win by taking three more matches in a row for a commanding 29-9 advantage before Rieger wrapped up the scoring with another fall.
Adrian will take final exams next week before wrapping up the 2016 calendar year at the Luther College-hosted Gator Duals in Nashville, Tenn., next Thursday through Sunday, Dec. 15-18. Live stats
