Visiting Olivet Clips Adrian in Last Match of MIAA Women's Tennis Nail-Biter, 5-4

ADRIAN, Mich.--Jeanette Fisher defeated sophomore Olivia Neumann in a No. 6 singles thriller, 7-5, 6-3, to give visiting Olivet College the decisive team point as the Comets clipped Adrian College, 5-4, on Tuesday at the Craft Tennis Complex.

With the win, the Comets improve to 5-7 overall and 1-2 in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association women's tennis standings. The Bulldogs fall to 7-7 on the season, 2-2 in the MIAA.

Junior Victoria Watson and sophomore Renae Almasy bested Isabel Snyder/Lydia Drikakis at No. 3 doubles, 8-3, to give Adrian its first team point and cut Olivet's lead in half, 2-1.

The teams split the six singles matches--all in straight sets.

Adrian sophomore Amber Laginess won her 11th consecutive singles match in a row and improved to 13-1 overall, after defeating BreAnne Rudlaff at No. 4, 6-3, 6-4.

Olivet took a seemingly comfortable 4-1 lead after Rachael Hager and Maddy Drikakis won Nos. 1 and 2 singles matches.

But senior Morgan Spencer at No. 3 singles sparked a 3-0 run as Adrian tied it 4-4. Spencer easily handled Haley Powers, 6-3, 6-0, followed by wins by Laginess and Almasy at No. 5 (over Isabel Snyder, 6-2, 6-1).

That set the stage for the final swing match between Fisher and Neumann.

The Bulldogs step out of MIAA play on Thursday with matches in Indiana against Manchester (11:30 a.m.) and Indiana-East (4:30 p.m.)
