Women's Tennis Comes From Behind to Shock NAIA-Scholarship Bethel College (Indiana), 5-4

ADRIAN, Mich.--The Adrian College women's tennis team used a furious rally late in the singles flight to earn a come-from-behind 5-4 non-conference win Tuesday over NAIA-scholarship Bethel College (Indiana) at the Craft Tennis Complex.

The visiting Pilots fall to 9-11 on the season and Adrian moves over .500 at 9-8.

Senior Arielle Williams tied the match at No. 1 singles and sophomore Olivia Neumann clinched the win at No. 5 for the host Bulldogs, who trailed 2-1 after doubles and 4-3 going into the final two singles matches.

Williams trailed in her top-singles match against Caroline Boger, losing the first set 6-3 and down 5-1 in the set. But Williams fought back to reel off the next five games to draw even 6-6 before winning the tiebreaker, 7-4, and even the match 1-set each. Then in the third-set super-tiebreaker, Williams doubled up her opponent, 10-5, to clinch the victory.

Neumann dispatched Megan Reed in three sets, 6-2, 4-6, 6-2, to give Adrian the thrilling comeback victory--one of the best rallies in team history.

Abbey VanDiver led the Pilots with two points, a No. 2 singles win over senior Morgan Spencer 6-3, 6-3, and a close No. 1 doubles triumph with Boger over Williams and Spencer, 8-6. Spencer saw her five-match winning streak in singles snapped.

Sophomore Renae Almasy and junior Victoria Watson each earned two points for the Bulldogs. Almasy bested Alaina Donegan at No. 4 singles, 7-6 (8-6), 7-5, and Watson trumped Ashton Taner at No. 6 singles, 6-2, 6-0. Almasy and Watson teamed for an 8-0 blanking of Megan Reed/Adrienne Koppinger at No. 3 doubles.

Adrian resumes Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association action on Wednesday versus St. Mary's University (Ind.) at home, beginning at 4 p.m.
