Nationally-Ranked Kalamazoo Shuts Down Men's Tennis in Regular Season Finale, 9-0

KALAMAZOO, Mich.--The nationally-ranked Kalamazoo College men's tennis team handed visiting Adrian College a 9-0 loss in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association action at Stowe Stadium on Sunday.

Adrian (15-8 overall, 5-2 MIAA) fell in back-to-back conference matches for the first time in three seasons, while the Hornets--who are ranked 37th in the nation and No. 10 in the NCAA Division III Central Region--improve to 16-4 on the season and 7-0 in conference play.

Branden Metzler, the No. 18-ranked No. 1 singles player in NCAA Division III, defeated junior Joey Loselle 6-0, 6-3, and teamed with Elan Dantus at No. 1 doubles to turn back senior Michael Mertz and Loselle to lead the Hornets.

Mertz provided an Adrian highlight in his No. 2 singles match against Robert Hudson. Mertz jumped out to a 6-2 lead after the first set, but Hudson evened it in the second, 6-4, and won the third set super-tiebreaker 10-3 to win the match.

Adrian will play in the postseason with the MIAA Tournament scheduled for Thursday-Friday, and official details coming soon from the conference office.
