ALBION, Mich.--The Adrian College women's tennis team dropped its Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association opener in a 6-3 decision to Albion College on Tuesday at the Ungrodt Tennis Center. The Bulldogs fall to 5-6 on the season while the host Britons improve to 8-2 overall.
Albion took a 2-1 lead after the doubles competition, as sophomores Renae Adams Almasy, Olivia Neumann put Adrian on the scoreboard with an 8-3 win in No. 3 doubles.
Senior Morgan Spencer led the Bulldogs in singles with a three-set win at No. 3 over Lauren Rasmussen. After losing the first 3-6, Spencer stormed back to take the victory 3-6, 6-2, 6-1. She leveled the match 3-3 after Adrian went down 3-1, but Albion won the next three matches for the team triumph.
Adrian sophomore Amber Laginess continues to roll at No. 4 singles, dispatching Chrissy Gauss 6-3, 6-3 to improve to 8-0 at this spot in the lineup. She is 10-1 overall in singles.
In a tough No. 1 singles battle, Adrian senior Arielle Williams lost a tough match to Heather Vogt, 6-2, 4-6, 6-4.
The Bulldogs will have a quick turnaround as they are scheduled to host Trine University at 4 p.m. Wednesday at the Craft Tennis Complex on the Adrian campus, but the match may be moved to Thursday with the same start time due to wet weather expected.
