ALMA, Mich.--Trailing 2-1 going into the singles competition, the visiting Adrian College women's tennis team took four of the last six matches to capture a 5-4 win Friday over Alma College in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association play.
Adrian improves to 7-6 overall (2-1 in the MIAA) with its second win in a row and third in the Bulldogs' last four outings. The Scots drop to 3-7 on the season and 0-2 in the conference.
Senior Arielle Williams and sophomore Renae Almasy gave Adrian its first point with a No. 2 doubles triumph over Paige Pontious/Claudia Barajas, 8-4, but the Bulldogs trailed 2-1 going into the singles matches.
Sophomore Amber Laginess won her 10th match in a row and improved to 12-1 overall to set the tone for the Bulldogs in singles, beating Pontious in three sets, 6-3, 1-6, 6-3, in the No. 3 position.
Almasy was Adrian's lone double winner as she dispatched Matilda Ennis at No. 5 singles, 6-1, 6-4.
Adrian senior Morgan Spencer was victorious at No. 2 singles, cruising past Nikki Malekadeli 6-2, 6-0, and sophomore Olivia Neumann turned back Chloe Ramsey, 6-3, 6-4, at No. 6.
Megan Solano paced the Scots with wins at No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles with her partner Malekadeli.
Adrian is scheduled to play non-conference and NAIA opponent Bethel-Ind. at 4 p.m. Monday.
