Men's ACHA Division 1 Ice Hockey

LATE RALLY FALLS SHORT AS BULLDOGS FALL 3-2 TO NORTHEAST GENERALS IN EXHIBITION CONTEST

ADRIAN, Mich. - Mike Egan scored two goals for the visiting Northeast Generals on Monday afternoon, as the Adrian ACHA Division I hockey team fell to the Generals 3-2 in their exhibition opener at Arrington Ice Arena.

A loud appreciative crowd, bolstered by students from Lincoln Elementary school, greeted the Bulldogs as they took the ice for the first time in their 2016-17 campaign. But the Bulldogs fell behind 2-0 as the Generals scored single goals in each of the first two periods, with Egan scoring his first goal in the opening period and Alex Cohen adding another in the second.

The Bulldogs Brad Kobryn put Adrian on the board just 58 seconds into the 3rd period, however, but Egan's second goal of the game re-established the Generals two goal advantage with 11:40 to play in the 3rd.

Freshman Rainer Glimple scored his first goal in a Bulldog uniform on the power play for the game's final score, with assists from fellow freshman Domenic Moore and Justin Fisher.

The Bulldogs had several chances to tie the game in the final moments, pulling their goaltender Matt Schnoes for most of the final minutes while on a power play for the final 11 seconds of the contest. Generals goaltender Gabe Vinal held off the Bulldogs furious final rush to preserve the 3-2 victory for Northeast.

Both Adrian and Northeast used two goaltenders in the exhibition contest, as Adrian starter Michael Barrett made 12 saves in the first 30 minutes, while Schnoes stopped nine shots after taking over midway through the 2nd period.

Adrian was unable to solve Northeast's starter Stephan Gasior, who stopped all 12 shots he faced, while Vinal preserved the win for the Generals with 24 saves, as Adrian outshot the Generals 38-24.

The Generals were whistled for 14 penalties for 30 minutes in the contest, while Adrian was sent to the box 11 times for 22 minutes

The Bulldogs next action will be September 30th when they travel to Midland for a two game series, before returning to Arrington Ice Arena for the home opener October 7, against Stoney Brook, which will begin a three game home stand.
