HOLLAND, Mich.--Junior all-conference standout Jerron McGaw led all receivers with 10 catches and 104 yards, but it wasn't enough for Adrian College as the Bulldogs were defeated by host Hope College, 22-3, in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association action on Saturday afternoon.

TOP DAWGS
= Senior placekicker Cameron Cook helped Adrian avoid a rare shutout loss as he drilled a 43-yard field goal as time expired.

= McGaw notched his fourth 100-yard receiving game this season and the sixth of his career. The 10 receptions are also a career high.

= Sophomore tight end/receiver Joe Cleary had a breakout game with a career-best six catches for 35 yards.

= Junior defensive back Chris Adams led all student-athletes with seven tackles and eight total, including two for loss of five yards and he broke up a pass.

= For the second straight outing, junior outside linebacker Tim McPhee established a career-high with eight total tackles (5 solo).

= Senior Eli Villalobos and sophomore Shawn Starks shined in the secondary. The former had four total tackles (1 TFL 8 yards) and four pass break-ups, while the latter came up with six solo stops. 

THE OPPOSITION
= Quarterback Mason Opple rushed for three touchdowns of 2, 36 and 2 yards. He finished with 74 yards in 20 carries on the ground and threw for 136 yards on 12 completions.

= Ryan Veenstra led Hope with six receptions (49 yards) and Kurtis Slenk had a team-best 66 yards receiving on four grabs.

= Darren Ford averaged 46.3 yards on seven punts and had four of them spotted inside the 20.

= Griffin Weigl led the defense with seven tackles, including a seven-yard sack and two for loss of 14 yards. He also was credited with a quarterback hurry.

= Mason Rosado added six solos and he had two interceptions to go along with a pass break-up.

HOW IT HAPPENED
= Hope frustrated the Bulldogs' vaunted rushing attack by holding the visitors to only 67 yards--200 short of the team's average this season.

= The Flying Dutchmen led wire-to-wire, starting with a Ford 41-yard field goal with 9 minutes and 32 seconds left in the opening quarter.

= The Bulldogs' defense also played well by limiting Hope to 263 yards of total offense--its lowest output of the fall. The 127 yards rushing by the Flying Dutchmen also was their lowest since Sep. 10, 2016.

= Hope had the advantages in time of possession (36:03 to 23:57), third-down efficiency (50 percent on 10-for-20 to 27% on 4-for-15) and takeaways (3-0).

= The Flying Dutchmen put 19 points on the scoreboard in the second quarter to take control.

= Adrian's return game was well-established, outgaining Hope 110 to minus-18. The Bulldogs' punt team held the Dutch to only negative 18 yards on five returns.

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
= Cook has 195 points in his career, breaking a third-place tie with AC Athletic Hall of Fame member Wayne Roedel (192 from 1984, '86-87) on the school's all-time chart.

= Adrian has been shut out only once in MIAA play (13-0 to Albion on Nov. 9, 2013) during the Jim Deere coaching era.

= This afternoon, McGaw jumped from out of the top-10 all the way into sixth place on the Bulldogs list for career receptions with 96. He could become the fifth AC player ever to surpass the century mark.

= Adrian lost a fumble for the first time this season. Entering the game, the Bulldogs were one of only 11 teams in NCAA Division III that did not lose a fumble.

= Senior defensive lineman Damon Fuller had 1-1/2 tackles for loss among four total stops, extending his all-time school record to 62-1/2.
