NAPERVILLE, Ill.—Senior Zach Rieger won the 285-pound title Saturday at the 54th annual North Central (Ill.) College Invitational, leading the Adrian College men's wrestling team to seventh place at the 15-team event held at the NCC Cardinals ResRec. The Bulldogs collected 61 points to finish ahead of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, Augustana (Ill.), Alma, Wheaton (Ill.), Milwaukee School of Engineering, MacMurray, Trine and Lakeland.
Rieger, a team co-captain, went 5-0 on the day with four pinfalls. He defeated two opponents from nationally No. 7-ranked Wabash College, including Max Bishop in the title bout via a pin in 1 minute and 30 seconds.
At 157, sophomore Dylan Steward was victorious in his first two matches before having to be forced to lose his next three due medical forfeit or injury. He was credited with a sixth-place finish and received 10 points to the team score.
Freshman Zachary Reynolds was Adrian's highest point earner who did not place. He was 3-2 at 184 to receive 6-1/2 points.
Also earning team points for the Bulldogs were junior Dominic Paterra (5-1/2 at 133), freshmen Noah Nieman (6 at 149), Bryant Moore (3 at 165) and junior Clarence Kennedy (5 at 197).
Adrian's fall schedule is complete and will return to the mat after the holiday break. The Bulldogs are back in action on Friday, Jan. 5, at the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Duals Open in Allen County War Memorial Coliseum at Fort Wayne, Ind.
