ORLANDO, Fla.--The Adrian College women's tennis team began its spring break trip to the Sunshine State on Monday with a 7-2 loss to Hanover College at the USTA National Training Center.
The Bulldogs drop to 3-4 on the season while the Panthers out of the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference improve to 13-5.
Adrian trailed 2-1 after the doubles competition as junior Renae Almasy and freshman Samantha Cyrus teamed up for an 8-5 win over Cami Jones/Lizzy Katzenberger at No. 2.
Freshman Makayla Jorgensen gained Adrian's other point at No. 6 singles, defeating Emily Karst in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2.
The Bulldogs played tough in singles spots at No. 1 behind Amber Laginess and No. 4 with Cyrus. The Panthers, however, earned wins in the super-set tiebreaker in each instance. Laginess fell to Meghan Farrell 6-2, 4-6, 1-0 (10-6), while Cyrus was edged by Ruth Gaston, 6-3, 6-7, 1-0 (10-6).
Adrian hits the court again at 9 a.m. Tuesday versus Augustana (Ill.).
