ADA, Ohio--The Adrian College men's tennis team zipped out to a 3-0 lead after doubles to cruise to an 8-1 non-conference victory at Ohio Northern University on Tuesday held at University Courts. The Bulldogs improve to 7-4 on the season while the Polar Bears dip to 7-3 after suffering their worst loss of the spring in their home opener.
Senior Joey Loselle and junior Brandon Brom set the tone at No. 1 doubles with an 8-6 victory over Tim Kargl/Andrew Garcia. Freshmen Tanner Wilcox and Kyle Haines made it 2-0 after defeating Jake Abbott/Tyler Frantz, 8-3, at No. 2. Doubles wrapped up at No. 3 as junior Jeff Sophiea and freshman Nathan Waterbury edged David Hayman/Cody Hurley, 8-5.
Loselle became a double winner at No. 1 singles where he eased by Kargl, 6-0, 6-1. Brom, Sophiea, Waterbury and Haines also earned two points on the day with straight-set wins at No. 2, 4, 5, 6.
Hayman picked up ONU's lone point at No. 3 singles with a three-set win over Wilcox, 3-6, 6-0, 10-1.
Adrian kicks off Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association play on Saturday, April 1 (1 p.m.), at Albion College, then will play a non-conference match affair versus NAIA-scholarship Spring Arbor College (4:30 p.m.).
