@AdrianBaseball Blast Visiting Comets to Complete Sweep and Open MIAA Slate

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

ADRIAN, Mich.--Senior Ryan Dorow hit a historic home run in the opener to set the tone for a Adrian College doubleheader sweep over visiting Olivet College to open the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association docket on Friday. The Bulldogs beat the Comets 4-1 and 20-4, as Dorow ties the school record for home runs in a career.

THE BASICS
= Final Scorelines: Game 1--Adrian 4-8-3, Olivet 1-5-0; Game 2--Adrian 20-22-1, Olivet 4-7-1

= Location: Nicolay Field, Adrian, Mich.; Weather: Sunny, 72 degrees, Wind 17 mph

= Records: Adrian Bulldogs 7-4 overall/2-0 MIAA; Olivet Comets 3-11 overall/0-2 MIAA

TOP 'DAWGS
= Tommy Parsons improved to 3-1 after allowing just an earned run and six hits while going the
distance. He struck out five Comets and did not walk a batter.

= Dorow went 5-for-8 with two runs batted in in the doubleheader

= Senior Ian Mikowski was 4-for-7 with a pair of doubles and two RBI on the day.

= Freshman Tristin Richardson had three hits and three runs scored in the two games.

= Classmate Gunner Rainey three hits (2 doubles), three runs and three RBI in the wins.

THE OPPOSITION
= Pitcher Aiden Holliday tried to help his own cause by going 2-for-3 with a RBI in the opener.

= Gary Tompkins III also had two hits in Game 1.

= In the second game, Aaron Gillespie had a home run with a man aboard.

Kevin Hatcher added two hits and a RBI in the nightcap.

HOW IT HAPPENED, Game 1
= Dorow connected on a Holliday (L, 0-2) pitch for a two-run blast in the bottom of the fifth inning
to extend the Bulldogs' advantage to the final margin of victory, 4-1.

= Freshman Gunner Rainey drove in a run when he grounded out to shortstop, snapping a 1-1 tie in the fourth.

= The teams traded a run in the opening frame. Gillespie doubled down the left field line and two batters later was driven in by Holliday's single to center for a 1-0 OC lead. The Comets were still threatening with runners in scoring position and two outs, but Parsons got out of it by striking out Michael O'Brien. Junior Hunter Hayes equalized with a sacrifice fly to center.

HOW IT HAPPENED, Game 2
= Adrian darted to a four-run advantage in the very first inning and never looked back. Sophomore Dugan Darnell capped it with a two-run home run--the first of his collegiate career-to right-center field.

= The Bulldogs scored in every inning--but the fifth--in the 16-run route.= In the sixth, Rainey sparked a six-run frame with a two-RBI single and senior Miccoy Drzewiecki provided the highlight with a three-run home run.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
= The Bulldogs are "receiving votes" (25 points) in this week's D3baseball.com Top 25 poll. The team has won three of four games versus nationally-ranked competition so far this spring.

= With the 4-1 win, Adrian improves to 14-10 in home openers under Coach Rainey--winning 11 its past 12 such encounters.

= Dorow is tied with Dan Slagle (1997-2000) for all-time home runs in Bulldogs history with 25.

= Adrian now leads the all-time series over Olivet 104-57 and the Bulldogs have defeated the Comets in 45 consecutive meetings. The 104 victories are the most against any opponent.

= Today's games were originally set for Saturday but a mostly wet forecast caused Adrian Athletics officials to move them up a day earlier.

= Drzewiecki leads Adrian with three home runs, which is second in the conference.

UP NEXT
= These same two teams are scheduled to conclude their four-game MIAA weekend series at Olivet at 1 p.m. Sunday.
